NORTH BAY, Ont. - The North Bay Battalion has acquired centre Mitchell Russell from the Owen Sound Attack in a trade for forward Adam McMaster, the Ontario Hockey League club announced Friday.

Russell, a 17-year-old right shot, has five goals and six assists for 11 points in 33 games this season. The six-foot, 188-pound Barrie resident had three goals and four assists for seven points in 59 games in 2017-18 after being a first-round pick, 20th overall, in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection from the Barrie Jr. Colts minor midgets.

He had one assist in 11 playoff games last season.

"He's a very skilled hockey player, and we're very happy to have him," Stan Butler, director of hockey operations and head coach, said of Russell.

Russell arrived in North Bay on Thursday and was expected to be in the lineup when the Battalion visits the Sudbury Wolves at 7:05 p.m. Friday.

McMaster, who has played both left wing and centre, was the Battalion's first-round selection, 13th overall, from the Niagara North Stars minor midgets in 2016. He had 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points in 34 games with North Bay this season, giving him career totals of 27 goals and 53 assists for 80 points in 159 games over two-plus seasons.

McMaster, a resident of Beamsville, Ont., turns 19 on Feb. 24.
