OHL Kingston Frontenacs

Fronts Get Stung by a Hot Goaltender in 7-4 Loss

October 25, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kingston Frontenacs News Release

Although the Sarnia Sting made a stop in Peterborough on Thursday night, last Sunday's game between Kingston and Sarnia was fresh in the mind of both teams. With Sarnia taking a 7-4 win, Kingston was looking for payback. Ben Gaudreau had a lot to do with the win by the Sting in that game and Kingston would have to face him again on Friday night. Brendan Bonello got the start in net for the Frontenacs as they looked to get back in the win column.

Like the game in Sarnia, Kingston was putting a ton of shots on net against the rookie goaltender Ben Gaudreau, but it was Sarnia who was scoring the goals. The opening goal of the game came from Anthony Tabak. It was a flutter puck that went over the head of Brendan Bonello and dropped in behind him. It wasn't the beauty they were expecting but they didn't have to wait long for that. Jamieson Rees scored an outstanding goal midway through the first period. He skated around a couple of defenders and beat Bonello with a nice deke. Although Kingston had 19 shots, they couldn't beat Gaudreau and trailed 2-0 after the first period.

Jamieson Rees scored another beauty in the second period. Another nice move by the Carolina prospect gave Sarnia a 3-0 lead. That is when the Kingston power play came to life. Although their first wasn't technically on the power play, Zayde Wisdom tipped in a point shot just as the Sting player stepped out of the box. Minutes later, Jordan Frasca tipped another point shot that did count as an official power play goal. Kingston was hoping to carry that momentum into the dressing room for intermission, but Sean Josling scored his 10th of the season in the final minute. Sarnia led 4-2 with one period to play.

Sarnia got the jump in the third period, too. Anthony Tabak got his second of the game to make it 5-2. Things slowed down for the middle part of the period, but goals came quickly in the final five minutes. Lucas Rowe tipped an Ethan Ritchie point shot to make it 5-3. Jamieson Rees answered back quickly for the Sting with his hat-trick goal before Lucas Rowe had a puck deflect off his foot and in for his second goal in four minutes. Before Kingston could get the goalie out for an extra attacker, Ryan McGregor made it 7-4 on an odd man rush. The Sting equaled their output from last Sunday with a 7-4 victory over the Fronts.

The assist Ethan Ritchie earned on the third Kingston goal was his first career point in his first career OHL game. Zayde Wisdom's goal added to his team lead. He now sits at 6.

The Frontenacs are right back at it tomorrow night on home ice against the Kitchener Rangers. It is Arkells night at Leon's Centre. There will be Arkells music, games and prizes throughout the game. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.ca or at the Leon's Centre box office.
