Niagara IceDogs News Release
Tonight, for the first time this season, your IceDogs (4-5-2-1) took on fellow Eastern Conference team, the Hamilton Bulldogs (5-6-1-0). Tied in the standings, both teams were looking to jump ahead and get back in the midst of the OHL points race.
It was all IceDogs at the beginning of the first, with the 'Dogs getting 11 shots on net before the Bulldogs registered one 7 minutes into the game. The electrifying offence of the IceDogs led to a calm back-end, as Mason Howard made poised breakout plays to minimize the time spent in their home end. Ethan Sims scored his first OHL goal to get the 'Dogs on the board after they were unable to capitalize on a 5 on 3. Lucas Theriault chipped the puck passed a Bulldogs defenseman in the neutral zone to then move it up to Jackson Doherty, who then dropped the puck back to Theriault in the slot. Tucker Tynan kept the game 1-0 the rest of the period by stopping all 13 shots that Hamilton sent his way.
The Bulldogs got two quick breakaway goals to start the second to lead the IceDogs 2-1. The IceDogs responded with three goals of their own to make the score 4-2. The 'Dogs second goal of the game was Ivan Lodnia's second goal on the season, assisted by Akil Thomas and Oliver Castleman. 3:06 later Akil picks up his fourth goal of the season, assisted by none other than fellow linemate Lodnia and veteran defenseman Elijah Roberts. Akil also scored the IceDogs fourth goal of the game by walking out from the half boards and releasing a laser from the slot. Assists went to Castleman and Giancarlo Chanton.
The Bulldogs started the scoring in the final frame bringing them within one. The powerplay for the IceDogs came back to life by scoring on their third odd man advantage of the game. Sopa passed off to Phil Tomasino which lead to a backdoor pass onto Castleman's tape, that went into the back of the net. Tucker Tynan sealed the deal tonight with a massive 34 save game!
