Barber Poles Come from Behind to Win Yet Again
October 25, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's defeated the Kitchener Rangers in dramatic fashion on Friday night, with a 4-3 win thanks to a late game-winning goal from Noel Hoefenmayer in the final minute of the game. Jack Quinn, Cameron Tolnai and Austen Keating were the other goal scorers for the Barber Poles
The Rangers struck first in this game, when rookie forward Declan McDonnell scored his first goal of the season and the first of his OHL career by tipping a shot from the point past Cedrick Andree around the halfway point of the opening frame. Reid Valade doubled his team's lead exactly four minutes later, giving Kitchener a two goal edge heading into the second period.
Kitchener came back out with the same energy they had in the first. Riley Damiani made it 3-0 for the visitors early in the third, giving the Rangers a lead that had them in a seemingly comfortable position, before the momentum switched in a big way. The 67's Jack Quinn put Ottawa on the board with a beauty when he split the D and beat Jacob Ingham with a high shot, giving some life to his team. Alec Belanger went on to have a spirited tilt against Reid Valade, raising the roof off of TD Place and giving his teammates a huge boost, allowing them to tie things up with two quick goals before the end of the 40 minute mark coming from the sticks of Cameron Tolnai (his first of the season) and Austen Keating.
With the game tied at three with 20 minutes to go, someone had to be a hero for either team, and who else to do it but 67's defenseman Noel Hoefenmayer, with his 6th goal of the season. Hoefenmayer threaded the needle by completing a nice pass from Austen Keating, only needing to tip it past Kitchener's netminder. The overage defenseman's game winner occurred late in the game, with only 49 seconds left on the board.
With this win, Ottawa is now on a two game winning streak and will look to extend it to three as soon as Sunday, when they receive the Sarnia Sting inside The Arena at TD Place as soon as 2:00 PM.
POST GAME COMMENTS
Head Coach André Tourigny
"I think Kitchener played very well. In the first, I thought we were playing well too, but they were better. We had to make a few little adjustments, but it was not easy. It was two good teams going at each other tonight."
Defenseman Noel Hoefenmayer
"We've said it a ton, but this team really has no quit. No lead is ever safe for the other team. It'd be nice to score first and get a couple of leads, that's something we'll have to work on in order to be more ready right off the start, but one thing's for sure is that we'll never quit on a game and tonight was another proof of that."
GAME NOTES
With his 6th goal of the season, Noel Hoefenmayer is now tied for league lead in goals for defensemen.

The Barber Poles were dominant in this one, outshooting the opposition 32-19.
