Sacramento River Cats News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - In a game that lasted nearly four-and-a-half hours and went 13 innings, Fresno's Nick Noonan delivered the knockout blow with a walk-off single to give the Grizzlies an 8-7 win over Sacramento Tuesday night at Chukchansi Park.
Trailing 5-2 in the seventh inning, the Cats put up five runs in the frame to take the lead. In the five-run inning, Grant Green drove in two with a double, followed by a two-run single by Manny Ramirez. Michael Taylor would cap the rally with a sacrifice fly, giving Sacramento a 7-5 lead.
The Grizzlies fought back with single runs in the seventh and the eighth to tie the score, forcing extra innings and setting the stage for Noonan's heroics. The walk-off hit came with runners on second and third with one out in the 13th inning, and gave Sacramento its second-straight loss to Fresno.
The loss fell to Fabio Castro (3-7), who gave up the winning run in his second inning of work. Brad Peacock started for Sacramento, but did not get out of the third inning. The River Cats used five relievers for a total of 9.2 innings, highlighted by Erick Threets' three-inning scoreless performance.
Wilmin Rodriguez-Fresno's seventh pitcher of the game-earned the win, tossing three shutout innings of relief.
Ramirez was one of six Cats hitters with at least two hits Tuesday, finishing 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Green went 2-for-5, extending his hitting streak to eight games. His two-hit performance was his seventh multi-hit game during his current hitting streak.
The series finale is scheduled for Wednesday night, with Sacramento RHP A.J. Griffin (1-2, 3.22 ERA) set to toe the slab against Grizzlies LHP Brian Burres (4-4, 5.55 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.
Sacramento returns home on Thursday, June 14, for an eight-game homestand against Tacoma and Fresno. The homestand opener is set for 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field, and is a Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday featuring a Salute to the Red, White & Blue presented by the U.S. Army.
