Florence Y'alls News Release
The Freedom jumped out to a 3-0 lead but Rockford rallied for a 5-4 win to sweep the Freedom on Thursday night in Rockford, Ill. Florence has dropped four in a row to fall back to .500 at 22-22 on the season.
The Freedom struck early against Rockford starter Matt Zoltak. Juan Valdes doubled with one out in the first inning and Drew Rundle followed with an RBI triple down the left field line. Chris Curley singled home Rundle and Mark Samuelson added an RBI infield single later in the inning to make it 3-0.
Rockford rallied in the third inning off of Freedom starter Antony Bello. David Cooper reached on an infield single and scored on Jake Eigsti's RBI double to the gap in right center. With two out, Luis Parache sent a grounder to first that was misplayed by Mark Samuelson, bringing home Eigsti and cutting the Freedom lead to 3-2.
Jeremy Richter led off the fourth inning with a single for the RiverHawks and moved to third on a sac bunt. With one out, Greg Van Horn grounded out to third, but Richter got caught between third and home. However, Samuelson threw the ball away at third and Richter scored to tie the game at three.
Chris Curley put the Freedom back on top with a solo homer to left in the sixth. It was his 10th homer of the season and he finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.
The Riverhawks responded in the bottom of the inning as Richter and Cam Satterwhite drew back-to-back walks against Bello. Alec Lewis came on in relief and allowed an RBI single to Greg Van Horn that tied the game at four. Freddy Parejo hit a sac fly to center to give Rockford their first lead at 5-4.
Bello (1-3) pitched five-plus innings and allowed five runs, three earned, on six hits. He walked five and struck out two. Alec Lewis came on to pitch a scoreless sixth and Zeb Engle threw two scoreless frames out of the bullpen.
Zoltak (3-1) pitched 6 1/3 for the win, holding the Freedom to four runs on six hits.
The Freedom return home to start a three-game series with Traverse City on Friday night at 7:05. Andy Clark (6-1, 5.23) will get the start on Fireworks Friday.
