High school showcase at stadium Saturday

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks will host the Northern Illinois High School Baseball Showcase Saturday at Road Ranger Stadium. The area's best junior and senior players will be playing in the showcase.

The two games feature players from the NIC-10 Conference against players from the Rock River Valley. Among the high schools featured are Stillman Valley, Rockford Christian, Guilford, Boylan, and Hononegah.

Players involved in the seniors' game include Guilford outfielder Garrett Johnson, Hononegah catcher Grant Atkins, Stillman Valley pitcher Dane Green and Rockford Christian shortstop Manny Plumacher.

Juniors participating include Winnebago pitcher James Northrop, Lena-Winslow third baseman Cole Logemann, Harlem catcher Corey Starnes and Boylan second baseman Joe Kubera.

"Hosting showcases, high school games and youth tournaments is all part of our effort to reach out to the young fans in the Stateline region," director of operations Chris Daleo said. "We've emphasized youth involvement and the local youth baseball community throughout the season, and this is just another example of that commitment."

"We're very pleased to have the showcase return to Road Ranger Stadium for a second year in a row," general manager Brad Sholes said. "It is a terrific event that allows people to see the up and coming talent in the area."

College coaches and scouts are invited to attend this special event at Road Ranger Stadium.

Admission is $5 for teens and adults. Children 12 and under are just $2. The juniors' game begins at 5 p.m., and the seniors' game starts at 7:30 p.m.
