Florence Y'alls News Release

(Joliet, IL) - The Florence Freedom (40-48) survived a late rally from the Joliet Slammers (34-55) in a 9-7 victory Wednesday night in front of 538 fans at Silver Cross Field.

Florence jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the game. Sam Eberle plated Cole Miles with a RBI single in the third for the first run of the game. Then Florence scored five runs in the fourth inning. Buddy Sosnoskie and Gaby Juarbe singled to start the frame. Adam Taylor singled home Sosnoskie and Bryan Soloman drew a walk. Miles cleared the bases with a triple and the Freedom had a 5-0 lead. Miles would score on a an error to make the score 6-0 in favor of the Freedom.

Another run crossed the plate for the Freedom in the sixth as Adam Taylor tripled and Soloman singled him in for his first professional RBI.

Soloman smacked his first professional home run in the eighth to make it 8-0 in favor of Florence.

Meanwhile, Casey Henn (9-5) was dominant through the first seven and a third innings. His final line of four runs on six hits is misleading as Henn shut down Joliet until the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth the Slammers rallied. Adam Lewis singled to start the frame. Max Casper followed with a single of his own. A fielder's choice and an error loaded the bases. One out later Grant DeBruin singled home two runs to chase Henn from the game.

Pete Levitt entered the game for Henn but gave up hits to Adam Giacalone (two-RBI single), Matt Weaver (double) and Chris Epps (two-RBI double). Ed Kohout came in for Florence and gave up a RBI single to Josh Scheffert and all of a sudden it was an 8-7 game.

But Kohout struck out the next two batters to preserve a one-run lead.

Rolando Gomez went yard in the ninth to provide the Freedom some insurance and Kohout finished off the game for his seventh save of the season.

The Freedom look to sweep the series Thursday night as they send Peter Gehle (5-5, 4.20 ERA) to the mound. First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. eastern time and all the action live from Joliet, IL can be heard on http://mixlr.com/florencefreedom/.
