Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE FREEDOM (39-48) @ JOLIET SLAMMERS (34-54)

Wednesday, August 27, 2014 - 8:05 p.m. ET

Silver Cross Field - Joliet, IL

Game #88 - Road Game #37 (39-48), (11-25)

RHP #31 Casey Henn (8-5, 2.69 ERA) vs. RHP #21 Kody McFarland (4-4, 4.19 ERA)

Last time out...

Cincinnati native Dave Middendorf (5-7) went seven strong innings, Gaby Juarbe drove in three runs and the Florence Freedom (39-48) knocked off the Joliet Slammers (34-54) by a final score of 6-1 Tuesday night in front of 651 fans in Joliet. Juarbe and Cole Miles delivered RBI singles in the fifth to put Florence up 2-0. A wild pitch allowed a Joliet run to score in the bottom of the fifth but that is all they would get against Florence pitching. Middendorf was outstanding, going seven innings, scattering six hits, allowing only one run, walking no one and striking out three. Florence pulled away from Joliet in the ninth. Sam Eberle walked and Jacob Tanis launched his sixth home run of the season to put the Freedom up 4-1. With the bases loaded later in the inning, Juarbe came up big again with a two-RBI single to right field and Florence took a 6-1 lead. Daniel DeSimone picked up the save for Florence.

Casey Henn makes his 18th start of the season tonight for the Freedom. He is coming off three consecutive outstanding starts including his most recent one, a 3-0 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts. In that outing Henn went seven and two thirds innings of shutout ball, striking out a career high 12 batters, walking only two and allowing only four hits. Henn's 98 strike outs are currently tied for the third most in the Frontier League. He beat Joliet on August 15, going seven innings of one-run ball, allowing only two hits, walking five and striking out three in a 4-1 win. Henn had a sensational rookie season for the Freedom, posting a 5-0 record with a 3.67 ERA for Florence fresh out of Wright State University. In nine appearances, eight starts, Henn struck out 38 batters in 49 innings while only allowing only 39 hits.

Going for the series win...

With a victory tonight the Freedom would win their fifth series out of the last six series they've played. They would also clinch the season series against Joliet. It would be the third season series the Freedom have won this year. They took five of nine from Washington and six of nine from Windy City.
