Joliet Slammers News Release

The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy- trailed 8-0 to Florence before scoring 7 runs in the 8th inning, only to lose 9-7 on Wednesday.

The Freedom took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning off Joliet starter Kody McFarland. Sam Eberle singled in the first run of the day. Cole Miles then added the big hit of the day with a 3-run triple in a 5-run 4th inning as it became 6-0. Sam Moore came on in relief and allowed a run in the 6th as it became 7-0. A Bryan Soloman solo homer off of Bobby Hillier in the 8th inning improved their lead to 8-0. That is when the Slammers rally got started. Casey Henn was dominant early for Florence though. He had allowed just one hit before the 6th inning and 3 hits going into the 8th. Adam Lewis led off with a single, followed by a Max Casper base hit. Seth Granger reached on an error to load the bases. One out later Grant DeBruin came up with a 2-run single to put Joliet on the scoreboard. Adam Giacalopne followed with a 2-run single of his own and it was 8-4. Henn was then pulled from the game. After a Matt Weaver double, Chris Epps contributed a 2-run double to make it 8-6 and a Josh Scheffert single pushed the score to 8-7 and capped the 7-run, 7-hit inning. In the top of the 9th, Rolando Gomez hit a solo homer for Florence off reliever John Maloney for a 9-7 Florence lead. Ed Kohout recorded the final five outs for the Freedom to pick up the save but an Adrian English single in the bottom of the 9th meant the Slammers were just a homer away from tying the game after trailing by 8 early. Joliet has now lost two straight after their three-game sweep of Windy City.

In the middle of the 8th inning, the Slammers gave away $250 to lucky fan, Dave Koivula, as part of their Amazing August/September promotion.
