Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, pulled to the brink of a return to the Frontier League playoffs with a 4-1 victory over the Rockford Aviators on Wednesday.
The Boomers did not trail in the contest, building an early 3-0 lead. Tony Delmonico opened the scoring just four batters into the bottom of the first with an RBI groundout, bringing home Alexi Colon. Mark Nelson followed suit with an RBI single off Rockford starter Ryan Zimmerman, who threw a complete game in a losing effort. Gerard Hall drilled a solo homer leading off the second to provide a huge cushion for starter Cal Bowling. Bowling threw seven innings and allowed just a single run in the contest.
Schaumburg (55-34) has won seven straight and holds a league best 36-11 mark at home this season. The Boomers own a magic number of one for a return to the playoffs. The homestand finishes on Thursday night when RHP Charle Rosario (2-0, 4.88) takes the ball for the Boomers against LHP Tony Butler (0-2, 8.59). The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
