River City Rascals News Release

The Rascals laid it on the Wild Things, 13-7 Tuesday night, starting off their six-game homestand on a high note. Joe Staley, Saxon Butler, and Blaise Fernandez all went deep for the Raskies in the contest to help move the team back to twenty games over .500.

Joe Cuda started for the Rascals and struggled a bit, surrendering a run in the first and ultimately giving up five before exiting before the third was through. Cuda would get a no-decision in the contest.

Joe Staley righted things for the Rascals in the bottom of the first inning, going off for a three-run bomb to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead. Staley's blast scored Johnny Morales and Saxon Butler.

The Raskies would score four runs in the second inning, including two on a base hit by Butler. Saxon was a long way from being done, blasting off for a three-run homer to right center in the fourth. He would finish the night with five RBI to bring his total up to seventy-six on the season.

The Rascals got a solid relief appearance for Chandler Jagodzinski, who turned in 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball to ultimately earn his fourth win of the season. But the real story was the Raskie offense. Nine of ten men who came to the plate for River City had a hit, and the bats launched three homers on the night. Blaise Fernandez smacked the last of those, a two-run shot that made it 13-7, in the eighth.

By getting the win, the Rascals kept pace with the Boomers at the top of the Western Division. They tangle with the Wild Things at 7:05 tomorrow night on White Out The Park Night At TR Hughes. The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a white Rascal T-shirt to wear during the game.
