Florence Y'alls News Release

(Florence, KY) - The Rockford Aviators (26-33) scored at least one run in each of the first four innings as they knocked off the Florence Freedom (25-32) by a final score of 8-2 Friday night in front of a sell-out crowd at UC Health Stadium.

The loss snapped the Freedom's three-game winning streak.

Rockford got to Freedom starter Peter Gehle (3-4) right away in the first. Tanner Witt and Michael Hur doubled to put runners at second and third with nobody out. Jeff Kremer followed with a RBI grounder to put the Aviators up 1-0. Then with two away Kenny Bryant doubled home another run.

Florence tallied three hits in the bottom of the first. They would only record two hits for the rest of the game combined. Cole Miles tripled to start the frame. Buddy Sosnoskie singled in Miles to cut the Aviators' lead to 2-1. Sam Eberle doubled Sosnoskie to third but both runners were left stranded.

In the second the Aviators tallied two unearned runs. An error by Preston Overbey opened the flood gates as Kyle Dhanani doubled to left. The throw in by Adam Taylor hit the base runner at third and bounced in to the dugout, allowing a run to score. One out later a sacrifice fly from Witt made it 4-1 Aviators.

In the second inning Adam Taylor singled, went to second on a passed ball and scored on a Rockford error. That would be the last run of the game for Florence.

An Edgar Corcino RBI single in the third and a Michael Hur RBI single in the fourth added two more runs as Rockford took a 6-2 lead.

Gehle took the loss as he went three and a third innings, giving up nine hits and six runs, four of which were earned, while walking one and striking out two.

The highlight of the game for the Freedom was reliever Ed Kohout who pitched two and two thirds innings of scoreless ball, striking out six batters along the way.

Florence will look to take the rubber match Saturday night against Rockford. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. All-Star Chuck Weaver (4-4, 2.27 ERA) takes the hill for the Freedom. It's also Sherlock Holmes Night at UC Health Stadium. More details about this one-of-a-kind evening can be found here.
