Washington Wild Things News Release

Marion, IL-The first-place Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, broke out the lumber Friday to defeat the Southern Illinois Miners, 8-2, after being held to just two runs on six hits the previous night.

The Washington offense collected eight runs on 10 hits in the contest, plating two runs during four of the nine innings. Scott Kalamar, Daniel Poma, Ryan Kresky and Jim Vahalik paced the team with two hits each, while Kresky and Kalamar collected one and two RBI, respectively. Teammate William Beckwith followed with one hit and three RBI, and CJ Beatty trailed with two RBI on one hit.

The slugfest began in the second, as Beckwith pushed a run across on a 6-3 putout and Kresky RBI tripled to put Washington up, 2-0. In the third, the Wild Things added two more runs to their tally off a two-run homer from Beatty, bringing his Frontier League second-best total to 14.

It wasn't until the sixth inning that Washington scored again, this time the two runs were a result of a Beckwith dinger over the centerfield wall. The Wild Things scoring came to a close in seventh when Kalamar singled to score a pair of runs en route to their eight-run triumph.

Zac Fuesser was a force to be reckoned with on the rubber for Washington, as he earned his sixth win of the year. The Frontier League ERA leader struck out five Miners in seven innings, and allowed a single run on three hits. Pat Butler got the save for Washington, while Tyler Lavigne walked away with the loss for Southern Illinois.
