Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE FREEDOM (25-31) vs. ROCKFORD AVIATORS (25-33)

Friday, July 25, 2014 - 6:35 p.m.

UC Health Stadium - Florence, KY

Game #57 - Home Game #34 (25-31), (19-14)

LHP #41 Peter Gehle (3-3, 3.55 ERA) vs. RHP #17 Joey Wagman (5-2, 3.23 ERA)

Last time out...

The Florence Freedom (25-31) scored two runs in the seventh to make a winner out of Dave Middendorf (4-5) in a 2-1 victory over the Rockford Aviators (25-33) Thursday night. Middendorf tossed seven innings of one-run ball, scattering five hits and striking out five without walking a batter. In the sixth inning the Aviators took a 1-0 lead on a Michael Hur RBI single. But in the seventh the Freedom rallied against Rockford reliever Eric Cendejas (0-1). Adam Taylor walked to start the inning. Gaby Juarbe tried to bunt him over but Taylor was thrown out at second for out number one. Then with two away, Buddy Sosnoskie delivered a RBI triple down the right field line to tie the game at one. Sam Eberle followed with a single to drive in Sosnoskie and Florence grabbed a 2-1 lead. Daniel DeSimone struck out the side in the eighth and Jorge Marban tossed a scoreless ninth for save number 11.

For Starters...

Peter Gehle makes his 12th start of the season tonight for the Freedom. He is coming off a great outing against the Lake Erie Crushers on July 20, going seven and a third innings of two-run ball while scattering seven hits. He struck out five and walked two in the no-decision. Florence is 6-5 in games Gehle starts. Gehle, 26, is a former 27th round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox in 2010 out of Azusa Pacific University. The Flagstaff, Arizona native spent two years in the White Sox organization before joining Sioux Falls of the American Association in 2012. He spent 2013 in the AA as well, this time with the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

We're going streaking!

The Freedom's current three-game winning streak is their first winning streak of three or more games since they won four straight to begin the season.

Going for the series win...

If the Freedom win tonight it will be their second consecutive series victory after taking two of three from Schaumburg Tuesday and Wednesday. It would be the first time Florence has won two consecutive series since they swept Windy City in a two-game set and took two out of three from the Southern Illinois Miners back in mid-June.

A rare win...

Last night's 2-1 victory was only the third time the Freedom have won when scoring fewer than three runs in a game this season. They are 3-17 when scoring fewer than three runs compared to a 22-14 record when scoring three or more runs.

One-run games...

Last night's one-run win snapped the Freedom's six-game losing streak in one-run games. They now have a record of 8-13 in one-run affairs.

Where's the offense?!

The Freedom's team batting average of .232 is last in the Frontier League. Their 216 runs scored are the fewest in the league.

Excellent Eberle...

All-Star Sam Eberle leads the Freedom in On-Base Percentage at .426. He also leads the team in multiple hit games with 18.

Transaction Wire...

The Freedom released INF Ben Kline, INF Caleb Bryson and RHP Edgar Valle today. They activated Chance Ross from the 7-Day Disabled List. Florence acquired RHP Chris Squires from the Kansas City T-Bones for a player to be named later and they signed INF Preston Overbey.

Tonight's Special Jersey Number...

Preston Overbey is wearing #61 tonight. The jersey will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky. The jersey is sponsored by Braden & Associates Law Firm.
