LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The BlueClaws scored four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning to erase a 3-0 deficit en route to a 4-3 win Wednesday over the Hickory Crawdads.
Trailing 3-1 with two runners aboard, Maikel Franco stepped to the plate in the 1st inning. His 8th homerun of the season gave the BlueClaws a 4-3 lead. He would hit a sacrifice fly to left field in the second inning to drive home Lakewood's eighth run of the ball game, and his RBI-single in the 4th inning produced Lakewood's final run of the game. Franco finished 2-for-4 with a run and five RBI which gives him the first 5-RBI game of the season for a BlueClaw.
Lino Martinez allowed three first inning runs, but that was all he would allow in five innings of work. His record on the season stands at 4-4 after the win in which he allowed just three hits while striking out four.
The BlueClaws improve their record to 11-9 in the second half with the win, and they now trail Hickory by three games for first place in the Northern Division.
The BlueClaws continue their eight-game homestand with Game 3 against Hickory Thursday. Lakewood will send Hoby Milner (0-1, 6.75) to the mound against Hickory's Nick Martinez (5-2, 4.02).
First pitch for Thursday's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Listen to all the action on WOBM 1160-AM and WOBM 1310-AM beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the BlueClaws Beat pre-game show.
