Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - The Rome Braves and West Virginia Power split a doubleheader tonight at State Mutual Stadium. Game one was the completion of a suspended game which had West Virginia on top 8-4. The Braves bounced back in game two
Unfortunately for the Braves in game one, six runs by the Power in the first inning left a huge early deficient they could never make up. Rome starter David Filak issued four walks, two base hits, and three runs before he ever recorded an out. Filak was relieved by Wilson Rivera who inherited three runners all of which later scored for a 6-0 lead. Rome scored one in the bottom of the first after Ross Heffley doubled and Robby Hefflinger doubled him home to make it 6-1. The Power added two runs in the fifth and Rome added two in the eighth for the 8-4 final. Zachary Fuesser (3-5) gets the win while David Filak (4-8) gets the loss.
In game two Rome exploded with eight runs highlighted by two home runs and four RBI by Ryan Query. West Virginia took a 2-0 lead to the second inning when Rome's Brandon Drury (4) hit a solo home run to make it 2-1 in the bottom of the frame. West Virginia was not able to score again all night. The Braves plated four in the fourth and three more in the sixth to give Rome the 8-2 victory.
Ian Thomas (3-0) came away with the win after he relieved Greg Ross in the fifth. Ross allowed two runs on eight hits and struck out five in his 4.1 innings of work. Nick Kingham (1-7) was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs along with two home runs.
Rome and West Virginia meet again tomorrow night in game three of this four game series at 7 pm. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
