Four Second-Half Goals Push Hartford to Victory over Birmingham Legion FC
October 10, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Hartford Athletic News Release
Hartford Athletic used four second-half goals to take down playoff-hopeful Birmingham Legion FC 4-0 on cold and rainy Wednesday night at Dillon Stadium.
The first half went largely without action as the players adjusted to the conditions. Neither side managed a shot on target in the first 45 minutes. Hartford opened the second half much more aggressive, but couldn't find the back of the net for the first ten minutes.
Finally, in the 56th minute, Angulo struck, turning defense into offense. Angulo deflected an errant pass from a Legion FC defender right into Danny Bedoya. Bedoya dropped off a beautiful pass for Angulo who finished far post - reminiscent of his goal against Indy Eleven which opened the scoring at the newly renovated Dillon Stadium. Moments later, Bedoya would add a goal of his own, a rocket to the upper 90 from 30 yards out to double the Athletic lead.
In the 81st minute, Wojciech Wójcik came on and made an immediate impact. Wójcik played a beautiful curling ball to set up Danny Barrera for Hartford's third goal of the night - a mere seconds after coming onto the field. Five minutes later, Wójcik added a goal of his own, the fourth of the night for Hartford. Wójcik and Angulo are now tied for the team lead in goals scored with six a piece.
The Boys in Green will play the final match of their inaugural season on Saturday, October 19th against Tampa Bay Rowdies at Dillon Stadium. In honor of the season's final USL Championship match, the club will be hosting a Fan Appreciation night with a special Buy One, Get One ticket offer. Click here to purchase tickets for the match.
