San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 10, 2019) - San Antonio FC (11-13-8) will travel to face Portland Timbers 2 (10-13-8) at Providence Park on Friday, Oct. 11 at 9 p.m. CT. The match marks the Alamo City club's last away game of the regular season as they continue to battle to secure a playoff berth.
SAFC heads into the match after falling to Las Vegas Lights FC last Saturday, placing the team in 11th place in the Western Conference standings and just one point below the playoff line. Four playoff positions remain unclaimed in the West, while only five points separate SAFC from seventh place in the table.
Portland will look to bounce back into winning form after suffering two consecutive defeats at home to Phoenix Rising FC and Austin Bold FC. The Timbers 2 remain alive in the playoff hunt as they currently sit in 13th place with 38 points and one game in hand.
SAFC is 3-2-1 all-time against Portland, most recently falling to the club at Toyota Field on March 16 in their first of just two losses at home this season. The Alamo City club has posted a 1-1-1 clip when facing Portland on the road, with the club's biggest win at Providence Park coming in April 28, 2017 when the team beat the Timbers 4-0 on the road.
The Alamo City club will enter the match without forward Frank Lopez after the striker received a red card last weekend, however the club will count with the availability of midfielder Rafa Castillo, who has recorded a goal or assist in four of his last five matches, as well as the return of midfielder Walter Restrepo, who was unavailable for their match at Las Vegas due to yellow card accumulation.
Following the match, SAFC will return home as they host Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Toyota Field, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. The night will be a Bud Light $1 Drink Night and will conclude with an 'Extra Time' postgame party and fireworks show following the final whistle.
