Four Schools Advance On Day One Of Dean Patterson Curve Classic

ALTOONA- The longest game in the five-year history of the Dean Patterson Curve Classic capped Friday's quarterfinal round action at Blair County Ballpark.

Patrick Smith's RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning lifted the Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers to a dramatic 7-6 win over Punxsutawney in the day's final quarterfinal contest. The Golden Tigers trailed 6-3 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, but rallied to score three times in the bottom of the frame to extend the game. Hollidaysburg got a two-out double from Brock Porter to set up Smith's game-winner.

The Golden Tigers now advance to the Saturday's second semifinal where they will meet Brookville, who crushed Indiana, 10-2. The Hollidaysburg/Brookville semifinal is scheduled for 5:30 PM.

Earlier in the day Friday, Blair County schools Central and Altoona advanced to the semifinal round with victories. In the day's first contest, Central starter Cody Bridenbaugh tossed a five-hitter to lead the Dragons to a 4-2 win over Central Cambria. The second quarterfinal saw 2006 Curve Classic Most Valuable Player John Snyder knock in four runs to lead Altoona to an 11-8 win over Huntingdon. Tyler Neff went the distance to earn the win for the Mountain Lions, who will meet Central in Saturday's first semifinal at 3 PM.

The four losing schools on Friday at Blair County Ballpark will return Saturday for consolation round action. At 10 AM, Huntingdon and Central Cambria will meet, while Indiana and Punxsutawney will play at 12:30.
