Fisher Cats Drop 6-2 Decision To Sea Dogs Friday Night

Portland, ME - Jacoby Ellsbury went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, as the Portland Sea Dogs rallied past the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 6-2, Friday night at Hadlock Field.

New Hampshire (11-6) jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Sea Dogs' starting pitcher Matt Goodson in the top of the third inning on an RBI double by Dustin Majewski (1-for-4, R, RBI) and a run-scoring single from Robinzon Diaz.

Juan Peralta, making his Fisher Cats' debut, went 1-for-2 with a single, a run scored, a walk and a stolen base.

The Fisher Cats would manage only one hit after the third inning -an eighth inning double by Chip Cannon (1-for-3, 2B, BB)- in having their five-game winning streak snapped.

Goodson (1-0) went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He walked two and struck out two. Kyle Jackson and Beau Vaughan each pitched two scoreless relief innings, with Vaughan registering his fourth save.

Portland (7-7) scored against Ricky Romero in the bottom of the third inning when Jeff Natale singled home Ellsbury.

The Sea Dogs took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning on run-scoring singles by Dusty Brown and Bryan Pritz.

Romero (0-1) yielded three runs on seven hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked two, suffering his first loss of the season.

The Sea Dogs added three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on three bases-loaded walks, drawn by Iggy Suarez, Eric Crozier and Jed Lowrie.

Jo Matumoto had his season-long scoreless innings streak snapped at 10.1 frames. Pitching in a downpour, the left-hander allowed three runs on two hits and three walks in 1.1 innings. He forced home two runs with walks before Tracy Thorpe issued the third bases-loaded walk.

The Fisher Cats and Sea Dogs play game two of their three-game series at Hadlock Field Saturday afternoon at 1pm. Left-hander David Purcey (3-0, 0.89) will pitch against Sea Dogs' right-hander Charlie Zink (1-0, 1.50).
