Home Runs Lead Thunder To 7th Straight Win

(Harrisburg, PA)- Home runs by Shawn Garrett and Aarom Baldiris, along with a strong outing by starter Jaosn Jones, led the Trenton Thunder to an 8-2 win over Harrisburg on Friday night. The win was the seventh on a row for the Thunder.

Trenton (15-2) jumped on the Senators in the top of the first as Garrett launched a two-run homer off starter Anastacio Martinez for the early lead. Harrisburg (5-15) got a solo homer from RF Robin Jennings in the bottom half to cut it to a 2-1 game. But that was the only run that Jones allowed over 6 1/3 innings on the night. Jones (2-0) scattered six hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Meanwhile, Martinez (0-2) took the loss allowing four runs (three earned) in three innings.

In the 3rd Inning, the Thunder loaded the bases and scored two runs on a groundout by 1B Cody Ehlers and a throwing error on Senators 1B Josh Whitesell. The lead went to 6-1 in the 4th Inning as LF Justin Christian walked and later scored on a wild pitch. CF Brett Gardner added an RBI bunt single for the other run. In the 6th Inning, Baldiris added a solo homer, his 2nd of the year, and 2B Gabe Lopez collected and RBI single for an 8-1 lead.

The series continues on Saturday at 6:05 PM. Chase Wright (1-0, 0.00) returns to the Thunder after two starts with the N.Y. Yankees. he will face Harrisburg's T.J. Nall (0-4, 4.91).
