Frederick Keys News Release
LYNCHBURG, VA -The Lynchburg Hillcats used a four-run sixth and a strong start from Jarrett Miller to top the Frederick Keys 8-4 on Friday night at Calvin Falwell Field. It was the Keys ninth loss to the Hillcats this year, and returned the club to 10 games below .500 on the season. Making his fourth rehab start since undergoing Tommy John surgery last June, and his first with the Keys since August 8, 2012, Dylan Bundy allowed three runs in 4.2 innings.
After Bundy needed only seven pitches to work through the first inning, the Hillcats scratched a run across in the second. With two outs, the righty hit Will Skinner with an 0-2 curve to put a man at first. Emerson Landoni proceeded to coax a walk, while a soft single by David Nick made it 1-0.
Frederick evened the game in the third on single by Jerome Pena, a hit-and-run, and an error by Hillcats first baseman Jonathan Bloxom. That is how things would stay until the fifth. Coming off a quick stanza, Bundy walked leadoff batter Joe Odom and surrendered a double to Eric Garcia to begin the fifth. Two batters later, Jose Martinez brought Odom home on a sacrifice fly. That was the final batter Bundy would face before reaching his pitch limit. Over 4.2 innings, he gave up three runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out three.
A Jimmy Yacabonis wild pitch brought home the second run of the inning, before the New Jersey native struck out Kevin Ahrens.
In the sixth, the orange and black grabbed their first lead. After mustering only three hits through five frames off Jarrett Miller, the Keys sent eight men to bat in the sixth. Mike Yastrzemski opened things up with a double to right. After a wild pitch, he scored on a second two-bagger by Michael Burgess, before an RBI single by Brenden Webb made it 3-3. The next batter Adrian Marin added the inning's third double which scored Webb from first.
Unfortunately, command woes would resurface for Yacabonis (0-2) in the home-sixth, as the Hillcats regained the lead for good. Following a leadoff walk to Bloxom, Will Skinner cranked a two-run homer to right. Yacabonis retired the next two batters, but a single by Odom kept the frame alive. Garcia added a base knock, while a wild pitch moved a pair into scoring position. Both scored on two more wild pitches to cap-off the inning.
Lynchburg added one more run in the eighth on the fifth Keys wild pitch of the game, while Alex Wilson gave up only one hit over 2.1 innings to close things out. Miller (4-6) earned the win, tossing 6.2 frames. He allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits to go along with one walk and five strikeouts. Yacabonis was tagged with his second loss in as many appearances. Over 1.1 stanzas, he gave up four runs on three hits. He walked two, struck out one and threw four wild pitches. Wilson garnered his eighth save in as many opportunities.
Frederick and Lynchburg play the second of three games on Saturday night at Calvin Falwell Field. Branden Kline (4-3, 3.24) toes the mound for the Keys and will be countered by right-hander Wes Parsons (4-4, 3.96). First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m., and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source. Frederick returns to Harry Grove Stadium on July 11, when the Potomac Nationals come to town.
