RHP Jarett Miller (3-6, 4.26) vs. RHP Dylan Bundy (0-0, --)
LAST TIME OUT: The Hillcats lost to the Carolina Mudcats last night 10-4...SS Emerson Landoni scored on a wild pitch in the third inning giving the Hillcats a 1-0 lead...The Mudcats scored the next 10 runs, tying the score in the fourth, and pulling away with five runs in the fifth...DH Alex Monsalve drove in three runs with a double in the fifth inning...LHP Daniel Watts only retired one batter that inning before LHP Ronan Pacheco was brought on in relief...Pacheco induced a fielder's choice and had a caught stealing behind him stopping the rally, but ran into more trouble in the sixth give up three more hits, walking one, and hitting another batter...Carolina added four more runs in that sixth frame to lead 10-1...Lynchburg came back with three runs in the seventh...2B Eric Garcia drove in two runs with a single to left-center field...He advanced to second base on the throw home, and the relay from home to second base to throw out Garcia went into centerfield...Garcia ended up scoring on the play since no one was in centerfield to back up the wild throw...The Hillcats fell to 7-7 with the loss but are still tied for first place with the Potomac Nationals (6-6) in the Northern Division...
VS. FREDERICK: The Hillcats are 8-3 against the Keys this season...They haven't lost a series against Frederick yet splitting a four-game series in Lynchburg opening weekend, winning three of four in Frederick April 11-14, and sweeping the Keys in Lynchburg May 27-29, which is one of just two series sweeps the Hillcats have this season...OF Will Skinner is batting .256 (10-for-39) against the Keys with three home runs and 10 RBIs in 11 games...Meanwhile, OF Glynn Davis has been Frederick's star against Lynchburg, batting .417 (20-for-48) with six doubles, nine RBIs, and 14 runs scored in 11 games...
NO-HIT HANGOVER: In the six games following throwing back-to-back no-hitters, the Hillcats have surrendered 46 runs, 42 earned, over 51 innings...That's good for a 7.41 ERA...Opponents are batting .319 (67-for-210) in these last six games and the Hillcats are 1-5 in this stretch...The Hillcats have also issued 33 walks in these six games...Overall this season, the Hillcats hold the second-worst ERA in the league at 4.54...
SLIPPERY SLOPE: Last night the Hillcats lost a fourth consecutive game, matching their second-longest losing streak of the season...This is the first stretch of consecutive losses for the Hillcats in the second half...Game 11 of the half started the slide...It took until game 16 of the first half for the Hillcats to start a losing streak...That initial losing streak in the first half ended up lasting 10 games...This is just the fifth time all season that the 'Cats have lost multiple games in a row...This includes getting swept by the Mudcats at home May 5-7, a four-game slide against Winston-Salem and Myrtle Beach, and three-game drought against Myrtle Beach and Salem...
NOTICE A THEME ABOVE??: The Hillcats have not lost consecutive games to a Northern Division team with the exception of the 10-game losing streak at the end of April which included dropping six meetings with the Potomac Nationals...The four multiple game losing streaks since have exclusively included games against southern opponents...Overall the Hillcats are 24-17 against their rivals to the North, but are just 17-26 versus the Southern Division...Traveling south has been especially difficult as the Hillcats are 6-14 in southern ballparks...
TIMING IS EVERYTHING: The Hillcats stranded 26 men on base in their last three games at Carolina...The team batted just .125 (3-for-24) with runners in scoring position and were out-scored 22-9...
CABRERA COMES BACK: RHP Mauricio Cabrera was activated off the disabled list Wednesday and made his return to the mound for Lynchburg last night...He gave up two hits and struck out two in a scoreless seventh inning...LF Jose Martinez helped him out by throwing out a runner at home on the second single, and that ended the inning...Cabrera hadn't pitched for the Hillcats since April 19...He made three starts for the 'Cats going 0-0 with a a 2.61 ERA before hitting the DL...Now that he's back, it is expected he will continue to pitch in relief...His fastball flashed as high as 97 on the stadium gun last night...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Dylan Bundy was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the first round in 2011 with the fourth overall selection out of Owasso High School in Oklahoma...The Tulsa native transferred from Sperry High School, a 3-A program to Owasso, a 6-A powerhouse in 2010...Won second-team All-America honors as a junior (11-1, 1.58) and was named Baseball America's High School Player of the Year in 2011...He went 11-0 with a 0.20 ERA, while also hitting .467...He struck out 322 batters in just 151 innings at Owasso...He made his professional debut this season with Low-A Delmarva after signing at the deadline for a reported $6.225 million major league contract, including a $4 million bonus...The 19 year-old entered his first professional season, in 2012, as the top-rated prospect in the Orioles farm system...Dominated with Delmarva....Went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA...Allowed just two unearned runs through 30 innings...Struck out 40 and walked two, and gave up just five hits...He went 13 innings (4 starts) before allowing his first hit on April 30...Promoted to Frederick on May 25 after eight starts in Low-A...Went 6-3 with a 2.84 ERA in 12 starts...Then promoted to Double-A Bowie (2-0, 3.24)...Received his first call-up to the majors in September after an 18-inning game wore out the Baltimore bullpen...Retired the only two batter he faced in his debut on September 23...Bundy is number one prospect in the Orioles system, and is rated in the top 20 of all prospects in baseball...He missed all of 2013 due to injury...He needed Tommy John surgery last June...Tonight will be his first start for Frederick after making three starts for short-season Delmarva...Allowed just one run on 10 hits in 15 innings, completing five frames in each outing...Struck out 22 and walked only three...Made four starts against the Hillcats in 2012 (3-1, 4.35)...Has allowed four runs in an outing twice in his career, both to the Hillcats...
