The Texas Rangers have made the following transactions today that affect the Myrtle Beach Pelicans Roster.
Please note today's transactions:
IF Hanser Alberto (#3) promoted to Double-A Frisco
OF Chris Grayson (#6) promoted to Double-A Frisco
OF Royce Bolinger (#7) reinstated off of the 7-day disabled list (knee)
IF Edwin Garcia received from Double-A Frisco
OF Lewis Brinson received from Class-A Hickory
Attached is an updated Pelicans Roster as of today, Friday, July 4.
Bolinger, Garcia, and Brinson all join the active roster today. Bolinger and Garcia will be in uniform for tonight's game.
Although Brinson is on the roster, he will not join the team until Monday in Winston-Salem.
Alberto makes his second trip to Double-A, having spent most of 2013 with the RoughRiders. The shortstop is hitting .274 with five homers and 43 RBI to go along with ten steals in 69 games. He just completed an outstanding June, hitting .313 with 12 extra base hits, including four of his home runs, with 21 RBI that included the end of a career-long 13-game hitting streak (May 25-June 14).
Grayson begins his third stint with the RoughRiders, having spent two stretches in Frisco this year already. In 22 games in Frisco, Grayson is hitting .278 with a home run and 14 RBI. In 30 games with the Pelicans, the outfielder hit .278 with a home run and nine RBI to go along with seven stolen bases. He departs in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak that includes three multi-hit games, including a three-hit game on July 2.
Bolinger comes off of the DL after missing the end of May, all of June, and the first three days of July. The outfielder was placed on the disabled list on May 29 but has not played since May 21. In 40 games, he is hitting .308 with two home runs and 24 RBI. The Carolina League All-Star selection would be sixth in the league in hitting but does not qualify for the league's batting title.
Garcia began the year with Myrtle Beach and was promoted to Frisco on April 25. The third-year Pelican hit .300 (12-for-40) for Myrtle Beach with four doubles, no homers, and three RBI. While in Frisco, Garcia entered 30 ballgames, hit .206 with four doubles, no homers, and six RBI, logging time at 1B, 2B, and SS.
Brinson, the 15th ranked prospect in the Rangers organization according to Baseball America, is hitting a career-high .335 in Hickory with 10 home runs and 28 RBI. He also has seven stolen bases and is in the midst of 13-game hitting streak, hitting .458 over that span (22-for-48). Brinson was selected in the first round (29th overall) by the Rangers in the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft.
The Pelicans roster is now once again at 25 active players, which is the Carolina League limit.
