Four-Run 8th Secures Series Win

(Allentown, PA) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (58-46) defeated the Syracuse Mets (46-58) 7-4 on Saturday evening to secure the series win. The IronPigs scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure the lead and eventual lead.

The IronPigs scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Donny Sands hit an RBI double against Tim Adleman to give Lehigh Valley a 1-0 lead. The Mets would jump ahead 2-1 against Kent Emanuel in the top of the fifth inning as Tzu-Wei Lin hit an RBI single then score on a balk by Zach Warren.

A throwing error by Mets catcher Michael Perez in the bottom of the fifth inning tied the game at 2-2. The Mets captured the lead at 4-2 in the top of the seventh Lin scored on a wild pitch by Ofreidy Gomez then Nick Dini hit an RBI single that scored Nick Plummer.

Sands got Lehigh Valley within a run in the bottom of the seventh inning as he hit an RBI double against Stephen Nogosek. The Pigs then scored four runs against Locke St. John (1-3) in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 7-4 lead. Dalton Guthrie scored on a bases loaded walk by Scott Kingery and Yairo Munoz hit a bases-clearing three-run double.

Bubby Rossman (2-1) earned the win for Lehigh Valley as he struck out the side in the top of the eighth inning. Tyler Cyr earned his fourth save of the season as he retired the side in the top of the ninth inning.

The IronPigs and Mets wrap up their series on Sunday evening at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
