Hillsboro, OR (July 28, 2015) - The defending Northwest League champion Hillsboro Hops (@HillsboroHops) had four players selected to the 2015 NWL All-Star team, the league announced Tuesday: starting pitchers Jared Miller, Carlos Hernandez and Cody Reed, and outfielder Zach Nehrir. They will play in the inaugural All-Star game pitting the Short Season Class A Northwest League against the Rookie-level Pioneer League. The game will be played Tuesday, Aug. 4th in Spokane, Wash.

"All four of these guys played big roles in our team winning the first-half title this season," said K.L. Wombacher, general manager of the Hops. "The three pitchers are the best in the league --- they've been 1-2-3 in most of the pitching categories all season --- and Nehrir has been a great all-around player."

Miller, 21, was named the Northwest League's starting pitcher in the All-Star game. During the first half of the season, which ended Sunday, he led the league in wins (7), was second in strikeouts (52), third in ERA (1.65), WHIP (0.88) and batting average against (.188), and has thrown the only complete game in the league so far in 2015. The former Vanderbilt pitcher and College World Series champion won a ring with Hillsboro in 2014, and was the winning pitcher in Game 1 of last year's NWL Championship Series.

Hernandez, 21, has a pair of 10-strikeout games this season. He led the league in K's (53) during the first half, and was second in the league in ERA (1.47), WHIP (0.86) and batting average against (.172).

Reed, 19, took a perfect game into the seventh inning during a recent game in Eugene. During the first half of the season, he led the league in ERA (1.37), WHIP (0.76), batting average against (.153), was third in strikeouts (46) and was tied for third in wins (4).

Nehrir (pronounced "NAIR-ee-AIR"), 22, has been a major factor in Hillsboro's offense since the beginning of the season. In the season's first half, he led the NWL in doubles (14, just two shy of the franchise record), was second in extra-base hits (16), third in hits (42) and sixth in batting average (.311).

Hillsboro and Salem-Keizer lead the league in players selected to the initial All-Star roster, with four each.

The Hillsboro Hops, an Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate, last week clinched the first-half South Division flag, securing a September playoff berth. They went 22-16 during the first half, and since the beginning of the 2014 season, Hillsboro is 70-44 (.614), eight games better than any other team in the Northwest League. The Hops went 4-0 in the 2014 postseason to win the franchise's first league title.
