Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release
The Northwest League announced on Wednesday that Volcanoes Drew Leenhouts (LHP), Jose Vizcaino (INF), Miguel Gomez (INF), and Chris Shaw (1B) will be represented on the 2015 Northwest League All-Star roster. The four Salem-Keizer players represented is tied for most by any team in the Northwest League.
The 2015 Northwest League / Pioneer League All-Star Game will be played at Avista Stadium in Spokane, Washington on Tuesday, August 4th. It is the first time that the two leagues will play each other in the mid-summer classic.
Drew Leenhouts, in his third year with Salem-Keizer, is among the league leaders with his 2.27 ERA. The left-hander from Northeastern University also ranks third in wins (5) and innings pitched (43.2). Leenhouts was also a 2013 Northwest League All-Star after posting similar first-half numbers with a 5-1 record and a 2.45 ERA.
Jose Vizcaino Jr., a 2015 7th-Round Draft Pick, boasts a .333 batting average. He is one of just three players in the Northwest League (all Volcanoes) to hit four home runs in less than 25 games played. The third baseman from Santa Clara was the NWL Player of the Week for July 7-13.
Miguel Gomez, the league's top hitter, is batting .376 and is currently riding a team-record 22-game hitting streak. Gomez is third in all of minor league baseball in batting average for players with over 30 games played.
Chris Shaw, a first round pick in 2015, has put his power on display in fairly limited action this season. The Boston College alum has four home runs and 15 RBIs in 23 games played. Shaw also logged a ten-game hitting streak through the first part of July.
Salem-Keizer sent six representatives to last year's All-Star game as a part of the league's Southern Division squad. The NWL North and NWL South played to a scoreless tie in the 2014 All-Star Game played at PK Park in Eugene, Oregon.
