Salem-Keizer roughed up the Hillsboro Hops for seven runs through two innings of play Monday night, defeating the Hops 9-2 at Ron Tonkin Field.

Hops starter Cody Reed (4-2, 2.85 ERA) entered the game with a sparkling 4-1 record and a 1.37 ERA - the best mark in the Northwest League. He departed only 1 2/3 innings later after serving up a career-high seven earned runs.

Reed ran into trouble right away, loading the bases with only one out in the first. Fernando Pujadas then lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Steven Duggar and putting Salem-Keizer ahead, 1-0. Reed escaped the inning without allowing any further damage, but the early jam stood as a sign of things to come.

The Volcanoes chased Reed from the game in the second, exploding for six runs. Julio Pena, John Riley and Junior Amion all singled to begin the inning, loading the bases with nobody out. Reed struck out Shilo McCall but then walked Duggar, forcing Salem-Keizer's second run across the plate. Riley then scored on a sacrifice fly before Ronnie Jebavy ripped a double into left, scoring Duggar and Amion. Miguel Gomez provided the final blow for Reed, slicing a double into right that scored Jebavy and chased the Hops left-hander from the game. Fernando Pujadas added an RBI single before the inning came to a close with the Volcanoes leading, 7-0.

It was the second time the Volcanoes scored six runs in a single inning this season and it came only a day after Salem-Keizer mustered only two hits against Hops starter Jared Miller. Reed had allowed only six earned runs all season before allowing seven to Salem-Keizer.

The Hops scratched across a run in the second but failed to advance a runner to third base until the ninth inning. Salem-Keizer added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to take a 9-1 lead and put the game out of reach.

Drew Leenhouts (5-2, 2.27 ERA) picked up the win for the Volcanoes, allowing only one run and three hits while striking out one through five innings of work.

Player of the Game: Ronnie Jebavy went 2-for-4 on the evening with three RBIs and two runs scored. He delivered perhaps the biggest hit of the night, ripping a two-out, two-run double in the second inning.

Up Next: The Volcanoes wrap up their series with Hillsboro Monday night. Jordan Johnson (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his season debut for Salem-Keizer. The broadcast will be available on volcanoesbaseball.com or through the TuneIn Radio app. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
