Four Former Rockets on World Cup Rosters

Former Kelowna Rockets players were front and centre yesterday as more teams announced their preliminary rosters for the World Cup of Hockey.

Shea Weber (Nashville Predators), Duncan Keith (Chicago Blackhawks) and Jamie Benn (Dallas Stars) were named to Team Canada's World Cup roster while Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers) was named to Team Europe.

Weber played four seasons with the Rockets beginning in 2001-02, playing in 192 regular season games and another 54 playoff games. In 2004 he was a key cog in the Rockets Memorial Cup championship and played in three straight Memorial Cups with the Rockets from 2003 to 2005.

Benn joined the Rockets in 2007-08 and played two seasons, scoring 79 regular season goals, including 46 in the 2008-09 season, when he led the team to the 09 Memorial Cup, putting up 33 points in 19 playoff games.

Keith was a member of the 2003 Rockets that went to the Memorial Cup, playing 37 regular season games and 19 more in the playoffs when he had 14 points from the blueline.

Draisaitl, a native of Germany, joined the Rockets last year and played 32 regular season games and 19 more in the playoffs, helping the Rockets to the 2015 Memorial Cup, where he was named tournament MVP.

The World Cup of Hockey will take place in September in Toronto.
