Forward Justin Courtnall Acquired in Trade

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch have acquired forward Justin Courtnall from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in exchange for future considerations. The announcement was made today by Crunch general manager Julien BriseBois. Courtnall will wear No. 14 with Syracuse.

 

Courtnall, 25, has played 40 games with Bridgeport this season, totaling four goals, seven points and 82 penalty minutes. In 107 career AHL games with Providence, Hamilton and Bridgeport, he has 10 goals and 16 points. He began his pro career with the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays in 2012, collecting five goals and nine points in 44 games.

 

The 6-foot-3, 204-lb. left-handed shot from Victoria, British Columbia, was a seventh-round selection, 210th overall, by Tampa Bay at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

 

Before turning pro, Courtnall played three seasons at Boston University, compiling seven goals, 13 points and 104 penalty minutes. He served as assistant captain his junior season. Prior to becoming a Terrier, Courtnall played 178 games in the BCHL with Victoria and Burnaby, totaling 46 goals and 127 points.

 

Justin's father Geoff Courtnall played 17 seasons in the NHL and his uncle Russ Courtnall played 16 NHL seasons.

 

The Crunch host the Adirondack Flames Friday and visit the Albany Devils Saturday and Bridgeport Sound Tigers Sunday.
