Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Monday recalled goaltender Petr Mrazek from the Grand Rapids Griffins and reassigned right wing Martin Frk from the ECHL's Toledo Walleye to Grand Rapids. In addition, the Griffins signed goaltender Jeff Lerg to a professional tryout and released defenseman Jared Nightingale from his professional tryout.
A native of Ostrava, Czech Republic, Mrazek owns a 2.06 goals against average and a 9-2-1 record in 13 appearances with Grand Rapids this season. Since being assigned to the Griffins on Feb. 17, Mrazek has not suffered a regulation loss, turning out a 6-0-1 record, a 1.13 GAA, a 0.927 save percentage and three shutouts. The third-year goaltender was selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 1 after earning three consecutive road victories, including two shutouts. Mrazek, 23, has spent a majority of his season with Detroit, accumulating a 13-5-1 record in 20 games, alongside a 2.55 GAA, a 0.909 save percentage and one shutout.
Detroit's first choice (49th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Frk has scored two goals in 16 games with the Griffins this season. The 21-year-old has spent the bulk of the season with Toledo, where he owns 38 points (23-15 - 38) and a plus-12 rating in 29 games. Frk is currently on an eight-game point streak with the Walleye, accumulating 12 points (9-3 - 12) from Jan. 25-March 8, and he has been held scoreless in only five ECHL games.
A native of Livonia, Mich., Lerg has played the primary role between the pipes for Toledo this season and ties for sixth overall among ECHL goaltenders with a 2.45 GAA, in addition to a 24-7-2 record, a 0.917 save percentage and three shutouts. The 5-foot-6, 155-pound netminder's last tour in the ECHL was a two-season stint with the Trenton Devils from 2009-11, when he produced a 3.32 GAA in 29 appearances. Prior to his professional career, Lerg spent four seasons (2005-09) with Michigan State University and turned out a 2.38 GAA and a 76-51-17 record.
Nightingale, 32, has appeared in two games with the Griffins this season, in addition to stints with the Hartford Wolf Pack (0-1 - 1, 6 GP), Milwaukee Admirals (0-0 - 0, 6 GP), and Norfolk Admirals (0-1 - 1, 20 GP). A 10-year AHL veteran, Nightingale made his Griffins debut in an overtime loss to the Rochester Americans on Feb. 7 at Van Andel Arena and subsequently appeared in the team's 5-0 shutout of the Chicago Wolves on Feb. 28. A native of Jackson, Mich., Nightingale has also spent 13 games with Toledo during his 2014-15 campaign, tallying three points (1-2 - 3) and 17 PIM.
The Griffins, who are currently on a 15-game point streak (12-0-3-0), will look to tie a franchise record for Grand Rapids' longest point streak on Tuesday at 7 p.m., when the team takes on the Charlotte Checkers at Time Warner Cable Arena.
