Forward Derek Army Joins the Ontario Reign

Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that forward Derek Army has joined the team from the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.

Army, 24, as six goals and 11 assists for 17 points through 23 games with the Nailers this season and began the campaign with the Portland Pirates of the AHL, appearing in four games. Last season, the North Kingstown, Rhode Island, native finished second on the Nailers and second among ECHL rookies with 66 points (29 goals, 37 assists) in 72 games.

Prior to turning pro, Army attended Providence College for four seasons. His father, Tim, skated in 68 AHL games with the Maine Mariners during the 1985-86 season and served as an assistant coach with the Colorado Avalanche (NHL) the last five seasons. Tim also stood behind the bench as an assistant coach in the NHL with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (1993-97) and Washington Capitals (1997-2002) and a head coach in the AHL with the Pirates from 2002-05.

The Ontario Reign roll into a busy month of January starting tonight, Saturday, January 2 against the Charlotte Checkers at 6:00 p.m. at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Reign and Checkers close their regular-season series on Sunday, January 3 at 3:00 p.m. on Superheroes Day at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
