UTICA, NY - The St. John's IceCaps defeated the Utica Comets in their first game of 2016 at the Utica Memorial Arena on Saturday night.
The IceCaps started off strong potting two goals in the first five minutes of play. Lucas Lessio scored the first goal of the night on an unassisted breakaway, followed by another marker just 3:10 later from Jeremy Gregoire. Markus Eisenschmid and Brett Lernout picked up assists on the second goal.
The Comets tried to make a comeback with a goal halfway through the first, but Brandon McNally notched his first goal of the season to extend the IceCaps lead in the third period. Dustin Tokarski stopped 26 of 27 shots for a first star performance.
