
Ontario Reign Game Preview: Reign Open 2016 and Busy January Tonight vs. Charlotte

Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), host the Charlotte Checkers tonight at 6:00 p.m. PT at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Tonight is the third of four meetings between the two teams this season.
The Last Time We Met:
The Reign and Checkers battled in a pair of contests at Bojangles' Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina December 5-6 and skated away with 3-1 and 5-1 victories. Reign defenseman Kevin Gravel leads the series with three points (three assists). The two teams wrap up the regular-season showdown tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. PT in Ontario.
A Busy January:
The Reign skate in a season-high 14 games this month including a season-high 10 contests on home ice. Tonight is the second contest of a five-game homestand and the Reign host another five-game homestand from January 15-22.
Budaj Backstops the Reign:
Goaltender Peter Budaj started the last 12 games for the Reign and leads the AHL with a 1.60 goals-against average and 16 wins. In eight of his last 12 games, Budaj has allowed only one goal.
Keeping the Checkers in Check:
The Checkers enter tonight's contest as the hottest team in the American Hockey League, riding an eight-game point streak (6-0-1-1). Forward Derek Ryan leads the Checkers and is currently tied for fifth in the AHL with 28 points (12 goals, 16 assists).
