Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
TOLEDO, Ohio - The 2010 Kelly Cup Champion Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL's Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that rookie forward Cory Coacher has been assigned to the club from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.
Conacher (pronounced CON-uh-ker), a 22-year-old Burlington, Ontario native joins the Cyclones after completing a tremendous four-year career at Canisius College, where he led the team in scoring his last two seasons. He had a career year in 2010-11, finishing first on the team with 42 points (23 goals, 19 assists) en route to earning Second All-Team Atlantic Hockey accolades. He became just the second player in the program's history to be selected to the all-conference team on two occasions. Prior to being sent down to Cincinnati, he skated in a pair of games with the Rochester Americans and registered his first professional goal.
Conacher, who earned First-Team Atlantic Hockey honors and was named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Year last season, scored a career-high 23 goals in his final year, including a team-best eight power-play tallies. He became the first player in the program's history with two seasons of 40-plus points and 20-plus goals, while his 23 scores are the most in the program's Division I history.
He owns the school's records with 147 career points, 62 career goals and 12 game-winning tallies in 129 career games with the Griffs. In addition to his goals record set this season, the 5-foot-8, 175-pound forward also owns single-season marks in points (53), assists (33) and game-winning tallies (five), set during his junior campaign.
He will be on the ice this afternoon as the Cyclones and Walleye will close out their 2010-11 season series with a Sunday matinee at the Huntington Center. The puck drops in Toledo at 4:00pm with pregame coverage on the Cyclones Radio Network starting at 3:45pm.
The defending Kelly Cup Champions will return to U.S. Bank Arena next Friday, April 1 for City Barbeque Fan Appreciation Night. The final game of the regular season will feature $1 John Morrell Hotdogs, $1 Donatos Pizza, $1 Soda, and $.50 Popcorn. 2011-12 season tickets are on sale NOW!
