Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps split Sunday afternoon's doubleheader against the Burlington Bees at Parkview Field behind a strong combined pitching performance from Elliot Ashbeck and Nick Monroe in Game 2.

After Burlington (9-14) managed a 1-0 victory in Game 1, Ashbeck (W, 2-1) allowed just one run over five innings. Monroe (S, 1) pitched two shutout frames, striking out three.

Fort Wayne (13-11) jumped ahead during the third inning thanks to a Hutton Moyer throwing error. Rod Boykin scored, and Ruddy Giron then touched home on a Ty France RBI single.

Two innings later, Boykin added another run after smacking a triple. He scored on a wild pitch.

In Game 1, TinCaps starter Brett Kennedy struck out nine over five innings, but Tanner Lubach's second-inning homer provided the decisive run.

Fort Wayne threatened in the bottom of the seventh - the final frame - when Michael Gettys hit a one-out double. France grounded out before Burlington intentionally walked Austin Allen, but Carlos Belen struck out swinging.

The TinCaps - who are 9-3 at Parkview Field - now embark on a six-game road trip that begins Monday with a three-game set against the Clinton LumberKings.
