Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Lansing Lugnuts answered a Wisconsin Timber Rattlers rally with a rally of their own to pick up a 5-3 win at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Jake Anderson's two-run triple in the top of the seventh inning broke a 3-3 tie and capped a three-run rally for the guests.
Lansing (13-8) grabbed the lead in the top of the second inning with three straight hits to start the frame. Ryan Hissey singled and Carl Wise doubled to begin the rally. Connor Panas followed with a single to knock in both runners for a 2-0 advantage.
Wisconsin (11-13) went hitless against Lansing starter Francisco Rios through the first four innings, but put a threat together in the bottom of the fifth. Carlos Belonis and Jake Gatewood singled with one out, but a force play and a flyout ended the inning and kept the Rattlers off the scoreboard.
In the sixth, the Rattlers found the range on Rios. Blake Allemand reached on an error and took second on a wild pitch. Max McDowell would single with one out to put runners on the corners. Isan Diaz was next and he singled to knock in Allemand and send McDowell to third.
Then, Diaz and McDowell pulled a perfect double steal with Diaz drawing the throw to second and McDowell scoring without a return throw to the plate to tie the game. Later in the inning Belonis put the Rattlers ahead with a two-out single to send Diaz home.
Wisconsin starter Jon Perrin settled down after those three straight Lansing hits in the top of the second. He retired the final fifteen Lansing batters he faced in a row. He struck out eight in the game to follow up on his 14-strikeout performance last Tuesday night. Perrin has not walked a batter in 39-2/3 innings dating back to a start against South Bend on August 16, 2015. He left the game in the hands of the bullpen on Sunday after six innings.
Lansing rallied in the seventh against reliever Alex Farina. Hissey drew a leadoff walk on four pitches to start the inning and went to second on a wild pitch. Wise followed with a single to put runners on the corners with no outs.
Farina got the first out with a strikeout, but couldn't handle a hot grounder back to the mound off the bat of Josh Almonte. That allowed Hissey to score the tying run and there were two runners on base. Jake Anderson was next and he lined a 2-1 pitch to the gap in right-center for a triple that scored both runners and put the Lugnuts back in front by a score of 5-3.
Wisconsin's bats managed one hit the remainder of the game. McDowell doubled with one out in the eighth inning against Starlyn Suriel, but Suriel got the second out of the inning. Then, Dusty Isaacs closed out the game by getting the third out of the eighth and working a 1-2-3 ninth.
The Timber Rattlers ended their six-game homestand with a 4-2 record.
The Timber Rattlers begin a six-game road trip to South Bend and West Michigan on Monday with a game against the South Bend Cubs. Miguel Diaz (0-1, 1.69) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. The Cubs have named Preston Morrison (1-2, 6.11) as their starter. Game time is 6:05pm CDT.
The radio broadcast is on 1280 AM, WNAM starting with the pregame show at 5:45pm. The game is also available on the internet through IHeartRadio, TuneIn, and MiLB.TV.
