Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT, Wisc. - The Snappers made the best of a long day, sweeping the double header to complete the 3 game series sweep of the Great Lakes Loons, Class-A Affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Snappers took game one, 4-0, behind a strong pitching performance by Kyle Friedrichs, who improved to 2-1 on the season. Friedrichs surrendered just one hit while striking out six through five innings of work. Armando Ruiz and Jared Lyons completed the shutout by finishing the last two frames of the 7-inning victory.

The Snappers offense was led by Steven Pallares and Brett Saddall, who had a pair of hits each. Saddall has swung a hot bat in the early going for 2016, as he has seen his average jump to .360 through his first 21 games.

Michael Boyle was hung with the loss for Great Lakes, giving up four earned across 4 1/3 innings of work. The Loons managed just four base hits in game one, led by Gage Green and his two base knocks.

The Snappers picked up where they left off in game two when they managed to complete the series sweep with a 3-1 victory.

Boomer Biegalski became the first Snapper this season to pick up three victories, as he ran his record to a perfect 3-0 in 2016. Biegalski gave up just one earned run across six innings, and struck out six hitters for the third time in as many appearances. Cody Kurz saw his ERA improve to 2.00 as he grabs his third save of the season.

The Snappers scattered seven hits, led by Justin Higley who hit his first homerun of the season, and the first by any Snapper at Pohlman Field this year. Higley also hit a double and later scored. Chris Iriart added a pair of hits in game two and totaled three bases, including his third double of the season.

Nolan Long took his second defeat of the season, giving up three earned runs through 4.1 innings of work for Great Lakes. The cold Wisconsin air didn't slow down center fielder Gage Green's bat; who had another pair of base hits in the Loons fourteenth loss of the season. Green totaled four base hits on the day and saw his batting average climb 75 points up to .170 on the year.

The Snappers used the series sweep to get back to within 2.5 games of first place Clinton and just one game back of the first half wild card spot, currently held by Kane County. The Snappers improve to 13-11 on the season, and 7-5 at home. The Great Lakes Loons continue to struggle through the early part of the season, as they saw their record drop to 7-14 on the year.

After a 3-3 home stand against the Eastern Division, the Snappers now head east for three games each against the West Michigan Whitecaps and South Bend Cubs. This will be Beloit's first trip to the pair of Eastern Division cities since April of 2014.

The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and are a fourth year Class-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics.
