
Bees Split Doubleheader in Fort Wayne

(Fort Wayne - IN) - The Burlington Bees (9-14) scored just two runs in tow games Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne Indiana, spliting two games with the Fort Wayne Tin Caps (13-11).
Tanner Lubach opened the scoring in game one in the top of the second inning. The Bees catcher led off the top of the second inning with a solo home run to left, his second of the season, giving the Bees a 1-0 lead.
Bees starter Jaime Barria worked five innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out five batters. Eric Alonzo came on from the Bees bullpen and worked a socreless sixth inning. Michael Gettys smacked a one out double to right. After getting Ty France to ground out, the Bees intetionally walked Austin Allen. Alonzo then struck out Carlos Belen, securing the Bees 1-0 win.
Barria (3-1) earned the win for the Bees while Brett Kennedy (1-2) was charged with the loss. Alonzo (1) earned his first save in the win.
Pitching was again the story in game two. The Tin Caps opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning. Rod Boykin reached on a walk and then stole second base. The next batter, Ruddy Giron, grounded to short but the ball was thrown away, allowing Boykin to score, giving the Tin Caps a 1-0 lead. Ty France upped it to 2-0 with a single that scored Giron.
With one out in the fourth inning, Brendon Sanger smashed a doubled to right and then came home to score when Hutton Moyer doubled to right field, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Rod Boykin added some insurance for Fort Wayne when he tripled to right in the fifth inning and then came home to score on a wild pitch, making the score 3-1.
Fort Wayne starter Elliot Ashbeck (2-1) picked up the win while Bees starter Grayson Long (1-2) was charged with the loss. Nick Monroe (1) picked up the save. The Bees return home to begin a six game home stand, starting with a three game series with the Dayton Dragons.
