Clinton Bats Double Dragons 8-4

Dayton, Ohio - The Clinton Lumber Kings featured a consistent offensive attack with runs in five different innings as they defeated the Dayton Dragons 8-4 on Sunday afternoon. The Lumber Kings completed a sweep of the three-game series, handing the Dragons their first sweep in a three-game home series since August of 2014.

Clinton built a 6-1 lead by the top of the eighth inning before the Dragons battled back and were one base hit away from the tying the game. The Dragons scored three runs in the eighth as the inning started with a triple by Mitch Trees and a double by Jose Siri. After Mitch Piatnik reached on a third strike wild pitch, Brantley Bell singled to left to drive in Siri and make it 6-3. Shed Long walked to load the bases with no one out. One batter later, James Vasquez grounded out to drive in Piatnik and advance the runners to second and third with two outs with the score standing at 6-4. But Luis Gonzalez struck out to end the inning.

Clinton scored two runs in the top of the ninth to extend their lead to 8-4. The Dragons collected three hits in the bottom of the ninth but came away scoreless, leaving the potential tying run in the on-deck circle as the game ended.

Dragons starting pitcher Franderlin Romero (1-2) reached his pitch limit in the fourth inning. He departed after three and one-third, allowing one unearned run on four hits with two walks and one strikeout to take the loss.

The Dragons collected nine hits. Brantley Bell and Mitch Trees each had two.

The Dragons (5-19) travel to Burlington, Iowa to battle the Burlington Bees (8-14) in the first game of the three-game series on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Jake Johnson (0-2, 8.25) will start for the Dragons against Burlington's LH Ronnie Glenn (0-1, 2.37).
