Former Shorebirds Outfielder Angle to Debut in Majors

Salisbury, Md. - Former Shorebirds outfielder Matt Angle will make his major league debut on Sunday, July 17 as the Orioles take on the Indians. Angle was officially recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on today. The 25-year old played for the Shorebirds in 2008.

Angle is the fifth former Shorebirds player to make his MLB debut this season. Zach Britton made his debut for the Orioles on April 3 against Tampa Bay, Ryan Adams made his MLB debut on May 20 against the Nationals, Pedro Beato (Mets) made his debut on April 1 against the Marlins and Blake Davis made his debut for the Orioles on June 22.

Angle, a seventh round draft pick in 2007 out of Ohio State, was an integral of the 2008 Shorebirds team that won 78 games. He batted .287 in 126 games with four homers and 35 RBIs. He led the Shorebirds in walks (71) and on-base percentage (.385). Angle was superb defensively, committing just one error all season in 257 total chances.

This season, Angle hit .266 in 81 games for the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A). He notched 86 hits, four home runs and 29 RBIs.

Angle is expected to start in left field for the Orioles and bat leadoff in his debut on Sunday, July 17.
