Former Phillies Closer Jonathan Papelbon to Rehab in Baseballtown

According to published reports in the Washington Post, Washington Nationals closer Jonathan Papelbon will be making a major league rehab appearance in Reading on Friday and Saturday when they host the Harrisburg Senators this holiday weekend.

Papelbon was placed on the disabled list for the first time in his career on June 12th after injuring his rib cage during warm-ups.

In 12 major league seasons, Papelbon is 40-34 with a 2.38 ERA and 365 saves in 677 appearances for Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington. During his time in the majors, he won a World Series with the Red Sox and has been named an All-Star six times.

His 365 career saves rank 10th all-time among closers. Papelbon is also third among all active pitchers in games finished with 578.
