Trenton Thunder News Release
TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Thunder fell behind early against the Richmond Flying Squirrels, but a four-run 2nd inning put them ahead for good in a 6-5 win Thursday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.
The Thunder saw 30 pitches in the 2nd inning against Kyle Crick, entering the inning trailing 4-1 against him. In the inning, Jose Rosario led off with a homer on a 3-2 pitch. It cut the deficit to 4-2, but the Thunder would continue to rally off Crick. With one out, the bases were loaded when Dustin Fowler singled through the middle to tie the game and put runners on the corner. Miguel Andujar followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Thunder a lead for good.
Starting pitcher Daniel Camarena allowed a pair of home runs in the 2nd inning and was touched for a run in the 5th, but improved his record to 6-1 with a victory. The bullpen tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless, hitless baseball to preserve a one-run lead. After 1.1 innings from Cale Coshow with a pair of strikeouts, Jonathan Holder notched his sixth save of the season with a scoreless 9th inning. He blew a fastball past pinch-hitter Carlos Moncreif to put the finishing touches on the victory.
Fowler finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and Wade finished 1-foe-3 with two runs scored and a walk to pace the Thunder offense.
The win extends the Thunder win streak to a season-best seven games. The Thunder look to match an eight-game win streak from May 30th - June 7th last season to match the season best effort from a year ago.
The Thunder and Richmond Flying Squirrels do battle in Game 2 of their four-game series Friday night with a scheduled 7:00 p.m. first pitch. Pregame coverage beginning at 6:40 p.m. on 91.3 FM and online at www.trentonthunder.com.
