Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI- Returning home with two games on the schedule this week at Wings Event Center, the Kalamazoo Wings will celebrate the state's biggest college football rivalry on Friday, and get a head start on Halloween with their annual orange ice game on Sunday.
The Wings welcome the defending Eastern Conference champion Wheeling Nailers to town on Friday for 'Blue vs. Green' night, presented by Kalsee Credit Union. In the spirit of the college football game that captivates the state, fans are encouraged to come dressed in their green or blue to show which team they represent. Upon arrival, fans in attendance will receive a fleece blanket in their favorite team's colors, courtesy of Kalsee Credit Union.
Kalamazoo and Wheeling- teams that were once divisional rivals- now represent opposite conferences, but will still face each other 10 times during the 2016-17 season. The Wings posted a 5-2-1-0 record against the Nailers last year, with Eric Kattelus tallying eight points while seeing action in four of the teams' eight meetings during the 2015-16 campaign.
Celebrating Halloween against the Allen Americans in style, the ice at Wings Event Center will be dyed for the annual Halloween orange ice game, presented by Meijer. The 3 p.m. matinee gives you and your family a chance to get a head start on their trick-or-treating around the concourse before the game, with special decorations provided by the Niles Scream Park. The Meijer food truck will also be on hand to pass out FREE cider and donuts as part of the fall tradition.
The Allen Americans are the two-time defending Kelly Cup Champions, and are making only their second-ever appearance at Wings Event Center. The last time the Wings and Americans met was in January of 2015, with Kalamazoo swiping a 4-3 overtime victory.
For the orange ice game, fans can purchase the Hungry Howie's Friends and Family deal- which includes four tickets, four promo giveaways, and a $20 voucher to Hungry Howie's- for just $29.99. The deal is online only, and cannot be purchased on the day of the game.
The Kalamazoo Wings have posted a 3-1-0 record through the first two weeks of the season, matching their best start since 2012-13. The offense is led by Justin Taylor, who has registered points in three straight games, and has posted six total points on the young season. Kalamazoo's goaltending duo of Joel Martin and Nick Riopel are a combined 3-1-0 and are averaging just one goal allowed per game, which leads the ECHL.
Single game tickets start at just $10 all season long and can be purchased at the Wings Event Center box office or at http://kwings.com/SingleGameTickets.
Wings Event Center, owned and operated by Greenleaf Hospitality Group, is home to the minor league hockey team Kalamazoo Wings and a full entertainment venue offering concerts, sporting events, family shows and trade shows.
