Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT - The Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League today announced the signings of 2012 WHL Bantam Draft picks Matt Fonteyne and Noah Juulsen. Both players, along with first-round draft pick Kevin Davis, have joined the team in Everett this week and could see action during the final weekend of the 2012-13 regular season.
"We're very pleased that both Noah and Matt have committed to our organization," said Silvertips General Manager Garry Davidson. "Although Matt is a forward and Noah a defenseman, both young men possess a number of similar qualities. They both get around the ice well, have good hockey sense and bring a skill package that will serve them well at our level on the offensive side of the puck. Both of their coaches have raved about their contributions as first-year midget players."
Fonteyne, 15, was selected by the Silvertips in the third round (#66 overall) of the 2012 bantam draft. A 5-foot-8 forward from Wetaskiwin, Alberta, he spent this season with the Leduc Oil Kings of the Alberta AAA Midget Hockey League. Fonteyne tied for second on his team and 10th in the league in scoring with 34 points (16g/18a) in 34 games this season. He also had five points (1g/4a) in three playoff games before the Oil Kings were eliminated in the division quarterfinals.
Juulsen, 15, was taken only four picks after Fonteyne with Everett's fourth round choice (#70) in last year's WHL draft. Hailing from Abbotsford, British Columbia, the 6-foot defenseman recently completed his season with the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds of the BC Major Midget League. In 35 games this year, Juulsen ranked seventh among all BCMML defensemen with 25 points on six goals and 19 assists.
Davis, 15, returns for his fourth stint with the Silvertips this season after playing five games during previous call-ups due to injuries and international tournaments. Everett's first round selection (11th overall) in the 2012 Bantam Draft, he has posted a +1 rating and two penalty minutes in five WHL appearances this season. Davis totaled 19 points (8g/11a) in 38 games for the BCMML's Thompson Blazers in his hometown of Kamloops, BC this season, good enough to crack the league's top-20 scoring defensemen.
The Silvertips conclude the 2012-13 WHL regular season with three games in three days this weekend. Everett visits Victoria on Friday night before returning to Comcast Arena for the second game in a home-and-home series with the Royals on Saturday. The 'Tips will then host the Tri-City Americans in their regular season finale at 5:05 Sunday afternoon in downtown Everett.
Single-game tickets for remaining home games during the Silvertips' 10th Anniversary season at Comcast Arena are still available. For more information visit www.everettsilvertips.com or call 425-252-5100. To keep up with all the latest 'Tips news, "like" us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter .
