Regina Pats News Release
First Period
Both the Pats and Warriors came out of the gate with stretches of owning the play, but it would be Moose Jaw who got on the board first. With Jack Rodewald in the penalty box, Kendall McFaul let loose a point shot that found its way through the crowd in front and squeaked past Matt Hewitt. Just seconds later, the Warriors made it a two goal game. Morgan Rielly found Justin Kirsch all alone in front and Hewitt was forced to make a great save, but the puck sat right on the goal line before being forced over by Bryson Gore. The Pats had a couple of scoring chances in the late stages of the period, but wouldn't be able to beat Justin Paulic on 10 shots in the first. The Warriors responded with 9 shots on the Pats net.
Second Period
The second period wasn't friendly to the Pats as the Warriors took control of the contest in the middle frame. It started just two minutes into the period as Warriors rookie call-up, Ben Duperreault, batted a bouncing puck into the goal behind Hewitt for a 3-0 Moose Jaw lead. Midway through the frame, Rielly held the puck into the Pats zone on a Colton Jobke clearing attempt and found Brayden Point to the side of the Pats net. The rookie scorer tapped the puck into the open side to end Matt Hewitt's night on the Warriors' fourth goal. Teagan Sacher came into the game, but was unable to entirely stem the tide as Torrin White stole the puck in the Pats end and snapped a shot by the rookie netminder and sent the Warriors to the third period with a 5-0 lead. The Pats trailed 26-18 on the shot clock through forty minutes of play.
Third Period
Regina came out with plenty of jump in the third period as the Blue and White held control of the play through most of the period. With pressure in the Moose Jaw zone, the Pats created some great scoring chances against Justin Paulic, but couldn't find a way past the Warriors goaltender in the early stages. The Pats put forward their best effort in the final minutes to break up Paulic's shutout bid when Carson Samoridny found Marc McCoy for a cross ice one-timer, but Paulic came across to make a great save. The Warriors goalie was forced to make another solid save, this one off Samoridny, before his teammates took the puck the other way to kill off the remaining clock. Paulic earned his first shutout on the season, turning away 31 Pats shots on the night.
