Portland Winterhawks News Release
Hawks Happenings On The Ice:
The Portland Winterhawks wrapped up home ice advantage through the playoffs and the Scotty Munro Trophy with their win Sunday in Victoria. It marks the first time since the Memorial Cup season of 1997-98 the Hawks have won the award. With four games still to play, the Hawks have significant records within reach: with 53 wins and 109 points, they can pass the franchise records of 56 wins and 113 points, both set in the 1980-81 season. And with 27 road wins with two left to play, Portland can set a new WHL record in that category, currently 28 road wins set by the 1999-00 Calgary Hitmen and 2008-09 Saskatoon Blades.
The Winterhawks will host Game 1 and Game 2 of the first round of the playoffs on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 at the Rose Garden. Tickets to those games are available now online (http://www.winterhawks.com/page/playoffpackages) or in person at the Rose Quarter box office. The Winterhawks' first round opponent will be one of three teams: the Seattle Thunderbirds, Everett Silvertips or Prince George Cougars.
Mac Carruth is also on the precipice of two single season franchise records, with the opportunity to set new marks for single season goals against average and single season save percentage. Carruth's goals against average this season is 2.08 and his save percentage is 92.9%. The team records were both set by Blake Grenier in the 2004-05 season with a goals against average of 2.06 and save percentage of 92.6%.
Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:
Friday's penultimate home game against Seattle will be televised on ROOT Sports. It's also mascot night, with dozens of local mascots set to entertain fans of all ages at the game.
At Sunday's regular season finale, the team will hand out its annual awards before the game, then present the jerseys off their backs after the game to lucky winners. There's still time to buy a raffle ticket to be one of the lucky winners: http://winterhawks.com/page/jerseyraffle
