SERIES AT A GLANCE: The Flying Squirrels will attempt to earn a series victory when they take on the Portland Sea Dogs in the fi nale of a three-game series at The Diamond today. Last night, Ryan Cavan went 2-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored as Richmond defeated Portland 3-1 at The Diamond. Mark Minicozzi also homered for Richmond and pitchers Ari Ronick, Austin Fleet and Bretty Bochy limited the Sea Dogs to just one earned run. Austin Fleet (1-2) surrendered just one run in three innings pitched to pick up his fi rst win of the season. Ronick turned in his best outing of the season in a spot start, as the southpaw went four innings and allowed just one hit while striking out fi ve batters. Bochy worked two scoreless frames to earn his eighth save. The Flying Squirrels went 4-2 against Portland in 2011 including a 2-1 mark in Portland. Richmond is 9-4 all-time against the Sea Dogs. Richmond is 4-2 all-time in the River City. The two teams will meet six times in 2012, three times in Portland and three times in Richmond.

TODAY'S PITCHERS: RHP Andy Reichard vs. RHP Stolmy Pimentel Reichard: Makes his tenth appearance and sixth start for the Flying Squirrels today. In his last appearance, Reichard allowed fi ve hits and one earned run in six innings pitched against New Hampshire Tuesday. He earned his fi rst Double-A win in Richmond's 3-2 triumph. Tonight's game will be Reichard's fi rst career start against the Sea Dogs. The right-hander spent the entire 2011 campaign with Advanced-A San Jose. He went 9-4 with a 3.38 ERA in 28 appearances, including 15 starts. Reichard split the 2010 campaign with San Jose, where he went 2-1 with a 6.57 ERA in seven relief appearances, and Low-A Augusta, where posted a 6-1 mark with a 3.39 ERA in 16 appearances, including 13 starts. He has a career record of 25-15 with one save and a 3.29 ERA in 98 appearances, including 52 starts. He was selected by the Giants in the 13th round of the 2007 June Draft out of Georgia College & State Univer- sity.

Pimentel: Makes his ninth start of the season today. In his last start, Pimentel allowed a season-high eight hits and four earned runs along with three walks and four strikeouts in four innings pitched at Bowie Tuesday. He took the loss in Portland's 11-6 set- back. Tonight's game will be his fi rst career appearance against the Flying Squirrels. He split the 2011 season between Advanced-A Salem and Portland. Pimentel posted a combined record of 6-13 with a 6.79 ERA in 26 appearances, 25 starts. He has a career minor league record of 34-37 with a 4.41 ERA in 111 appearances, including 106 starts. He signed as a non-drafted free agent with Boston following on July 2, 2006.

THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA: Richmond second baseman Ryan Cavan is enjoying a hot stretch at the plate. Cavan is batting .370 (10-for-27) with three doubles, three home runs, seven RBIs and six runs scored in his last seven games. He belted a solo home run in last night's 3-1 triumph over Portland. It was his third home run of the home stand and his sixth of the season. Cavan delivered a run-producing, extra-base hit in four consecutive games (6/10-6/14).

MARVELOUS MARK: Since joining Richmond on June 1, Mark Minicozzi has provided a veteran presence in the lineup . In his last nine games, Minicozzi is batting .321 (9-for-28) with two home runs, six RBIs and three runs scored for Richmond. This includes a solo home run in last night's game against Portland. In the three-game set at Portland, The former East Carolina standout rejoined the Giants organization on May 4. He began his career in the Giants system after San Francisco selected him in the 17th round of the 2005 June Draft. After missing the 2008 season due to injury, Minicozzi spent the past three seasons playing in several indepen- dent leagues.

DYNAMIC DUO: Middle infi elders Ehire Adrianza and Ryan Cavan have provided a strong defensive presence in Richmond's infi eld. Adrianza leads the Eastern League in fi elding percentage for shortstops (.982) and has committed just fi ve errors in 271 chances. Cavan leads all second basemen in the circuit in fi elding percentage (.997) and he has committed just one error in 366 chances. Together, they have helped Richmond lead the circuit in double plays with 76.

THE GREAT GLOOR: Flying Squirrels reliever Chris Gloor's invincibility on the mound fi nally came to an end in last night's 4-2 loss to Portland. He allowed two earned runs in the eighth inning, which snapped a streak of 19.2 scoreless frames out of the Richmond bullpen, the longest scoreless streak for any Flying Squirrels pitcher this season. As a result, Gloor (1-1) was charged with his fi rst loss of the season after Richmond failed to come back against Sea Dogs relievers Chorye Spoone and Josh Fields in the fi nal two frames.
