Rock Cats Rally, But Seawolves Hold on for Sweep

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Erie's Patrick Cooper fired six shutout innings and the bullpen escaped a late comeback by New Britain as the Seawolves edged the Rock Cats, 4-3 on Sunday afternoon before a sellout crowd of 6,419 at New Britain Stadium. It was the third-straight sellout and 10th of the season.

Cooper (1-0) limited the Rock Cats to three hits and struck out four.

Meanwhile, the Seawolves jumped on Rock Cats starter Andrew Albers from the get-go with a leadoff single by Jamie Johnson. Brandon Douglas followed with a double to right field that knocked in Johnson for the 1-0 lead. Niuman Romero then lined a single into center to put runners at the corners with no outs. Albers forced Jordan Lennerton to groundout into a double play, but Douglas crossed the plate for the second run of the inning.

Lennerton added an RBI single in the third inning for the 3-0 advantage. In the sixth, Romero singled to open the inning for his third hit of the day and came around to score on a base hit by Tony Plagman.

Albers (3-2) scattered nine hits for four runs in six innings. He struck out four and walked none. The bullpen duo of Bobby Lanigan and Bruce Pugh combined for three scoreless innings in relief to keep the `Cats within striking distance.

Nate Hanson put the Rock Cats on the board with a one-out solo homer in the eighth. In the bottom of the ninth, the Rock Cats loaded up the bases against Robbie Weinhardt. Hanson was hit by a pitch to force in Evan Bigley from third and cut the lead in half, 4-2. Chris Herrmann added an RBI sacrifice fly to close the gap to one run. Weinhardt escaped the jam by forcing Deibinson Romero to groundout to third to end the game and pick up his sixth save.

The Seawolves capped off a three-game series sweep of the `Cats, who have lost five in a row.

ALLSTATE PLAYER OF THE GAME : LF Nate Hanson went 2-for-4 at the plate with a solo home run. He also had two RBI.
